6.2-magnitude earthquake shakes Mytilene/Chios/Smyrna. The epicenter of the 6.3 magnitude quake was 5km (3 miles) south of the Greek town of Plomari, south of Lesbos, the US Geological Survey said.

Authorities in Lesbos said dozens of homes were damaged in many parts of the island and some roads were closed due to avalaches and sevaral historic churches were damaged acording to ealy reports.

Disaster and Emergency Management said that the earthquake was in the Aegean Sea at a depth of seven kilometers (more than four miles) and hit at 3:28 p.m. (1228 GMT) just off the coast of Lesbos. Tremors were also felt as far away as densely-populated Istanbul/Athens and in the western Turkish provinces of Izmir.
